When individuals experience sexual harassment or illegal discrimination in the workplace, they may opt to file claims with the government. Depending on the actions that the government takes or chooses not to take, the workers may ultimately sue to enforce their rights in court. Oftentimes, this kind of concrete action not only helps workers obtain compensation and justice for the harm they have suffered, but it also tends to help deter employers from treating other workers in the same kinds of unacceptable ways.

However, many workers also react to harassment or discrimination in host of other unique ways. When injustices occur, many individuals feel frustrations that inspire creative solutions. Speaking with an attorney after suffering illegal treatment in the workplace is important. Yet, you may also opt to channel your experience into creative work or some other productive project.

For example, when one woman experienced pregnancy discrimination in her line of work, she understandably struggled with self-confidence and stress management. She was also frustrated by the challenges that women face when attempting to speak publically about their pregnancy discrimination experiences. These issues ultimately inspired her to launch the “Pregnant Then Screwed” project. This project empowers women to write about their experiences anonymously and to expand the public debate about pregnancy discrimination in the workplace.

If you are struggling in the wake of suffering discrimination or harassment in the workplace, please consider both speaking with an experienced attorney and channeling your energy into a project that inspires you. You may emerge from these efforts stronger and more focused than ever before.
